Every event we time gets a start-list review before results are final. Backup timing adds a separate record of the finish order, so close finishes and missed reads can be checked against more than chip data.
Planning for the rare missed read
Chip timing is highly reliable, but a result can still go missing, and the cause usually isn’t the equipment:
- A bib or timing tag folded, covered by a jacket, or pinned through
- A participant who went around a timing line instead of across it
- Bib swaps and race-morning changes that never reached the timer
- Day-of registrations missing from the start list
That’s why we don’t rely on chip reads alone.
How we review results
We keep a backup record of the finish order and reconcile results against the start list. Close finishes and missing reads are checked against it before results are marked final.
When a participant has a question
Participants can send us a results correction request. We review the timing data and any backup records and follow up by email. The sooner someone reaches out, the easier it is to fix.
What we need from you
